10. Al-Mutakabbir

Allah is the One Who is above all evil, defect or deficiency. His Supremacy is beyond anything and everything He has created, there is nothing comparable to Him, Exalted in Might, the Wise.

"He is Allah other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior."

(Quran: Surah al-Hashr 59, verse 23)

Allah is Supreme, He calls Himself Al-Mutakabbir on one occasion the Qur'an in the above verse. He is Superior, the Great, the Proud. Allah describes people as mutakabbireen [arrogant] several times in the Quran. Those people have arrogance in their hearts and their actions towards Allah, and from this arrogance they disbelieve in His signs and look down on others [due to race, position, wealth, children, looks, etc.]

The Messanger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "He who has in his heart and atoms weight of arrogance will not enter Jannah [Paradise]." Someone said: "A man likes to wear beautiful clothes and shoes?" Messenger of Allah PBUH said, "Allah is beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance means ridiculing and rejecting the Truth and despising people." [Muslim/Riyad as-Salihin]

What is the opposite of arrogance? Humility, the Prophet PBUH said, "no one will exercise humility for Allah's sake, except that Allah will raise him up." [Sahih Muslim] It is important for us to be vigilant of ourselves, enough so that when a small amount pride is within your heart, you are  quick to notice and destroy it before it destroys you. Be great by showing humility before your Lord 'Azza wa jall seeking His protection and support  in hardship and ease. Remind yourself regularly that Allah SWT is the Greatest and of the blessings He has give you, and of His Power, His strength and His Knowledge. We have little knowledge compared to the All Mighty, yet we should be humbly grateful for what knowledge we have been given, amongst many other things and not to let it get to our heads, not to let us presume we are where we are because of our selves , not to presume you have a roof over your head, or you are driving a nice car because you earned it. No Allah is the Provider and He provides you with things and will take things away from you, all as a test, a test of Iman [faith], a test of humility, tawakul [trust in Allah],  taqwa [fear Allah].

"It was narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah that the Apostle of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) , said, "He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter paradise."

[Sahih Muslim Hadith]

Everyday ask al-Mutakabbir and seek protection from becoming those who are arrogance and full of pride:

O Allah, Al-Mutakabbir, You are Supreme, You are Great and Powerful.

Protect me from the evil of my own self,

Guide my heart and fill it will love for You,

Enable me to be amongst those whom You will be pleased with,

Remove any pride and arrogance from my heart and replace it with humility towards You,

Protect me from arrogance entering my heart,

and save me from Your Wrath and the Punishment on a Day that will be Overwhelming,

Make me a witness to Your Grandeur in Jannah.

Ameen
