Science and the Qur'an (Human Embryological Development)

Published on 19 November 2024 at 11:00

The Qur'an was brought down to us, somewhat 1444 years ago. It has been studied by scientists and around 80% of the contents have been proven to be true. It has come to light that the contents of the Qur'an could not of been written by man, but by the One Who Created all things, Allah! There is just no way that someone could know the things within the Qur'an unless they themselves had created it.

"And certainly We (Allah) created man from an extract (piece) of clay. Then We placed him as a nutfah (sperm drop) in a place of settlement, firmly fixed. Then We made the sperm drop into an alaqah (leech like structure), and then We changed the alaqah into a mudghah (chewed like substance),then We made out of that mudghahizam (skeleton, bones), then We clothed the bones with lahm (muscles, flesh) then We caused him to grow and come in being and attain the definitive (human) form. So, blessed be Allah, the best to create."

(Qur'an: Surah al-Mu'minum [The Believers] 23, verses 12-14)

Just sit with these verses for a few minutes...This is the proof about the stages of embryology, which was revealed over 1444 years ago in the Holy Qur'an, yet scientist have only been inspired to create advance technology and equipment; designed to study and investigate the human development and growth of the embryo. I personally find this fascinating. Here I will break it down for you:

So we already know that the first creation [Prophet Adam] was created from clay, "And We did certainly create man of out clay..." (Qur'an: Surah al-Hij'r [The Rocky Tract] 15, verse 26) Then He [Allah] placed the Sperm drop in a holding place/place of safety which is the scrotum. Although the scrotum is on the outer part of the body, the production of sperm is produced within the body. "So let man observe from what he was created. He was created from a fluid, ejected, emerging from between the backbone and the ribs." (Qur'an: Surah al-Tariq [The Night Comer] 86, verses 5-7) Once Allah has decreed for a child to be created, then the alaqah which is the clinging clot/leech like structure is formed, and then shaped into a mudghah [chewed like substance].

From the image below you can see the similarity in the embryo and the chewed gum. just to note that the first ever microscope was invented back in the 16th century, so how would it of been possible for humans to know this detailed description of the embryo before then?

"And Allah has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing a thing, and He made for you hearing and vision and intellect that perhaps you would be grateful."

(Qur'an: Surah an-Nahl [The Bees] 16, verse 78)

"

"Allahs Apostle the true and truly inspired, narrated to us, 'The creation of everyone of you starts with the process of collecting the material for his body within forty days and forty nights in the wombs of his mother. Then he becomes a clot of thick blood for a similar period [40 days] and then he becomes like a piece of flesh for a similar period. Then an angel is sent to him [by Allah] and the angel is allowed [ordered] to write four things; his livelihood, his date of death, his deeds, and whether he will ba a wretched one or a blessed one (in the Hereafter) and then the soul is breathed into him.So one of you may do (good) deeds characteristic of the people of Paradise so much that there is nothing except a cubit between him and Paradise but then what has been written for him decides his behavior and he starts doing (evil) deeds characteristic of the people of Hell (Fire) and (ultimately) enters Hell (Fire); and one of you may do (evil) deeds characteristic of the people of Hell (Fire) so much so that there is nothing except a cubit between him and Hell (Fire), then what has been written for him decides his behavior and he starts doing (good) deeds characteristic of the people of Paradise and ultimately) enters Paradise." (See Hadith No. 430, Vol. 4- Sahih al-Bukhari 7454)

"He created you from one soul. Then He made from it its mate, and He produced for you from the grazing livestock eight mates. He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, within three darknesses. That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs dominion. There is no deity except Him, so how are you averted?"

(Qur'an: Surah az-Zumar [The Groups] 39, verse 6)

The three dark stages in the womb, indicates the dark phases of the embryo during its development.

  1. The first dark phase is the darkness of the anterior abdominal wall.
  2. The second is the darkness of the uterine wall.
  3. And the third is the darkness of the amnio-chorionic membrane.

The modern biology of today has shown that the embryological development of babies takes place in three different stages, stating that life in the uterus has three stages. The observation of the embryological development can only be attained by observation made with modern technology equipment. Which then brings us back to the verse which clearly states the three stages of the human embryo development. Since there is so much detail in the Qur'an of these true facts, that was sent down at a time when the people had no detailed information on the subject, it only confirms that the Qur'an is the True word of Allah (SWT).

We have created you, so why do you not believe? Have you seen that which you emit? Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone."

(Qur'an: Surah al-Waqi'ah [The Events] 56, verses 56-60)
