5. As-Salaam

Allah is the bringer of peace, Who spreads peace throughout His creation. As-Salaam is the One Who is perfect, tranquil, all peaceful, content and free from all imperfections. He provides security, safety and a sense of peace and tranquilty to those who purify themselves and submit.

As humans we incline towards inner peace or whatever it may be that gives us calmness and serenity. Some people may find peace in doing some exercise, going for a walk, reading a book or doing meditative practices like yoga. And then there are others who may find peace in spiritual practices, such as prayer, mediation and remembrance for a spiritual connection with God. But on the other hand there are some people that incline to calamitous, damaging conduct to escape the lack of inner tranquillity.

We are all seeking inner peace one way or another, whether we are conscious of what we seek. It can be hard to understand what it is exactly; could be a feeling , an urge or a prompting. Sometimes inner peace comes and goes far too quickly and is only temporary. e.g, those who seek peace by drinking alcohol or taking drugs, it is only a temporary sense of peace and when the effects wear off, they are again seeking to find that inner peace once again, only to be turn to that which is not only temporary but also very damaging, for themselves and others who they interact with.

True inner peace comes only from Allah, its true origin, He is the One Who grants us the inner peace which is long lasting as long as we follow the guidelines He has placed before us in the Quran. God knows us better than we know our own selves, He created us after all and is fully aware of our needs, but it is for us to call upon As-Salaam and seek peace, amongst other things.

"He is Allah Whom there is no other Allah, the King, the Holy, the Giver of Peace, the Granter of security, the Guardian over all, the Exalted in Might, the Supreme, Glory be to Allah above what they associate." (Quran: 59, verse 23)

Believers spread peace amongst themselves and in the world. Muhammad, peace be upon him, said, "By the One whose Hand is my soul! You do not enter Paradise until you believe, and you do not believe until you love each other. Shall I tell you of something to do so that you may love each other? Spread peace amongst yourselves." [Sahih Muslim]

His creation is flawless, His actions are free from fault. When certain things happen in our lives and in the world around us, that we do not understand or view as unfair, know that this is the decree of Allah and remember that Allah is as-Salaam (the Giver of Peace), say Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah). What you may consider to be evil or unjust on the outside, has wisdom that only Allah knows. For example; the story of Prophet Musa and al-Khadir teaches us a lesson on the Divine Decree. When the boat of the people who helped Musa and al-Khadir was purposely damaged, which the people relied on for their sustenance. When the child was killed of the two righteous parents. Some might of said why? the same as Musa (alaihis salaam) did. But Allah explains through al-Khadir, that the damage he did to the boat was done, was to protect them from a greater calamity awaiting them. The parents whose child al-Khadir killed, although this must have been a very difficult thing for any parent to endure, it ultimately saved them from future ruin and potentially loss of faith.

Khutbah of the story of Prophet Musa and al-Khadir.
